On 23th of May 2019, Swinburne Sarawak organized a CodeAthon challenge at Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) in Sibu. The event was a collaboration between the School of Information & Communication Technologies and the Business Development and Liaison unit. The event objective was to evaluate participants’ programming and computational thinking skills. It serves as a platform for participants to assess their abilities in understanding, designing algorithms as well as implementing them.
The event attracted 15 students form the Diploma in Computer Science programme at MPI. They formed five teams and were given five programming challenges in a period of three hours. At the end one team was selected as the winner.
The feedback was positive from the management of MPI where the principal and the head of the computer science department appreciated the effort of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak in conducting such event and hoped for more to come. The students were also happy to have participated in this event. The majority of the participants rated their overall experience as exceptional. They were interested in the event, thought the questions helped widen their knowledge and asked for similar challenges to be organized in the future.
