This laboratory serves Bachelor of Engineering programs in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Computer System Engineering and Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering. It has state of the art equipment, such as optical spectrum Analyser, OTDR, Monochromator, scanning Fabry Perot, lock-in amplifier as well as conventional equipment such fusion splicer, optical bread board, optical fibres and components, He-Ne and semiconductor lasers, etc.
Currently, the laboratory is designed to provide hands-on experience in Photonics and Fibre Optics (HET 417) and is geared to serve Fibre Optics Communication & Optical Instrumentation (HET 209). The laboratory supports research in Fibre Optics and works closely with the RF Laboratory. It is expected that this laboratory will also help with optical work in other disciplines, such as bioengineering and biotechnology.
