Industry reps to speak on career prospects at Swinburne Sarawak’s Open Day

KUCHING – Representatives from the accounting, engineering, design, and ICT industries will speak on career prospects at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ Open Day on Saturday, 17 December.

The guest speakers, from CPA Australia Malaysia Division, Institute of Engineers Malaysia Sarawak Branch, Weida (M) Berhad, Studio Yolk and IDS (Asia) Sdn Bhd, will share their experience and knowledge of their respective industry.

The industry representatives have been invited by the university to help parents and their children make better-informed decisions on their choice of career.

Senior academics from Swinburne Sarawak will elaborate on entry requirements, the learning to be gained and career opportunities of the discipline.

The talks will start from 10:30am while the last session will end at 4:00pm.

A number of activities have been lined up for the Open Day, which starts from 10am to 5pm, to provide visitors a sample of the university experience including demonstrations of DNA extraction, display of students’ work such as robots, civil engineering models and equipment, 3D animation projects and many more.

Swinburne Sarawak has a range of programs in engineering, commerce/business, science, computing and design from foundation to postgraduate levels.

Its next intake is 9 January for foundation and 20 February for degree programs.
Available for consultation on these programs are academics from the three schools of university – Language and Foundation; Engineering, Computing and Science; and Business and Design.

As those who meet the entry requirement for a program will be offered a place on the day, they are advised to bring along their SPM or STPM forecast results. Application fees will be waived on the day.

Those who have yet to decide on the course of study may take a quick aptitude test. Base on the result, university counsellors will guide them on to programs that are more suited to their interests and strengths.

Parents and students keen to find out about scholarships and study loans may also approach the appropriate booth.

For a tour of the campus, a team of students and staff will take visitors on guided tour to some of the facilities and services at Swinburne Sarawak.
