Swinburne Sarawak elevates industry engagement with successful Semester 2, 2023 Final Year Project Showcase

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science (FECS) celebrated another triumph when it successfully organised the Semester 2, 2023 Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase on 4 December 2023.

The FYP Showcase serves as a platform for final-year students to exhibit their year-long projects. The event culminates in a networking session and an industry award ceremony.

The showcase commenced with an insightful sharing by Ts Professor Lau Bee Theng and three distinguished post-graduate students, Slyvester Chai Yew Wang, Arooj Fatima Tul Zahra and Isaac Asante. With the title “Unlocking Your Future with Higher Degrees by Research in Engineering, Computing and Science”, the sharing session engaged the audience with valuable insights into future careers through research degrees

As a testament to the university’s commitment to industry relevance, three certificates under the Swinburne Sarawak Industry Immersion Program (SSIIP) and 14 certificates under the School of Information and Communication Technology (SoICT) were conferred to students who had completed the respective programs.

The event opened with a compelling oral and poster presentation and a Plenary Session on “Analog IC Design and IC Testing Program by CENTEXS.” Spearheaded by the Sarawak State Government in collaboration with SMD Semiconductor and Melexis, the program highlighted a funded training initiative that empowers students for success in the semiconductor industry.

The sharing was presented by Siti Nor Sabiqah Binti Morshidi, Coordinator and Digital Academy Instructor at CENTEXS; Bert Parmentier, Senior Test Solution Development Engineer at Melexis and Clement Sim Tih Farn, Senior Staff Engineer and Trainer at SMD Semiconductor.

The FYP Showcase was attended by over 400 delegates including 38 esteemed industrial guests. A total of 181 projects by final-year students from diverse disciplines were presented. Industry representatives provided invaluable feedback to these projects. These gave valuable insights that inspired the next generation of engineers, scientists and technologists.

The comprehensive efforts and initiatives displayed during the event have positioned Swinburne Sarawak as a prominent industry-engagement institution of higher learning. This not only supports the university’s final-year students in showcasing their research projects but also propels Swinburne towards a future-ready status through broader external engagement domestically and internationally.

Swinburne’s FYP Showcase is a bi-annual event. Through the showcase, Swinburne showcases how the Australian university aligns its programs with its Horizon 2025 vision in meeting the Swinburne Moonshots. The Moonshots emphasise the acquisition of industrial experience, lifelong learning and collaboration with external stakeholders.
