Swinburne Sarawak now offers Bachelor of Engineering in Software programme

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus is now offering the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Software) programme. Slated to commence during the University’s February 2022 intake, Swinburne’s Software Engineering graduates will be trained in both engineering and software practices and will fulfil the demand for computing and IT-centred specialisation, respectively.

To be taught by the School of Information and Communication Technologies, the programme was tailored to respond to the growing demand for software engineers specialized in developing and maintaining high-quality software systems embedded within the industry. It also adds to the already extensive list of Information and Communication Technology degree that the Australian university already offers.

Students enrolled in the programme will learn the core concepts and gain a firm understanding of processes and standard practice within the engineering discipline before proceeding on to software development practices in the second year of study onwards. Students will also be trained in various developmental tools for building complex systems specialized in engineering applications.

The four-year degree consists of 12 core units and 16 major units that include software development, object-oriented programming, data management, digital electronics design, integrated circuit design, web applications, hardware-software code design, software design and deployment, and computer architecture.

Upon completion, graduates will also gain an in-depth understanding of specific software engineering needs with wide spectrum of technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Data Management, Networking and Cybersecurity.

“The new programme is an engineering programme majoring in software with wider focus in robotics and mechatronics, and electrical and electronics,” said Head of School of Information and Communications Technologies, Professor Patrick Then Hang Hui. Students will also have the option of transferring to Melbourne in their third year onwards, he added.

The programme is oriented towards Australian qualifications standards and is accredited by Engineers Australia (EA). This adds value to the certification while also qualifying graduates to undertake professional software engineering work or pathway into research and future learning.

Swinburne Sarawak is currently accepting enrolment into its February 2022 intake. Students who have excelled in their earlier study may be awarded one of the many Swinburne Sarawak scholarships and bursaries that are currently available. The university is also offering full scholarship to students who met its pre-determined criteria. In collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak, Swinburne is offering the Yayasan Sarawak BP40 Bursary Scheme to eligible Sarawakian Bumiputera students who enrol into its programme of studies.

Its 2022 intakes are now open for enrolment into its foundation, diploma, degree, and master programmes. The University is also expecting to welcome its current and new students back on the campus in the second quarter of the year.
