Swinburne Sarawak offers new Diploma of Accountancy

KUCHING – Graduates of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ newly introduced Diploma of Accountancy can enjoy thriving career prospects in the fields of accounting, auditing, taxation, finance and general consulting.

Cynthia Aling, Diploma (Business, Design and Arts) Course Director and lecturer at Swinburne Sarawak, said that this 2.5-year course, which has intakes in April and September, will prepare prospective students for entry into the workforce or act as a pathway into higher education.

“For example, graduates can enrol in the Bachelor of Business suite of courses offered here at Swinburne Sarawak. These undergraduate business courses are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Furthermore, for graduates who plan to enrol in the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance), these two courses are professionally accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) Australia and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA),” she said.

Graduates of the Diploma of Accountancy course are eligible for credit exemption that could shorten their studies up to 1.5 years during their Bachelor’s degree.

Cynthia said students undertaking the Diploma of Accountancy will not only learn the essential theoretical knowledge through the common and discipline units but also develop a plethora of practical skills needed to succeed in the accountancy field by working on authentic assessments and collaborating with team members in group projects.

“Upon completion, graduates will have sound overall accounting knowledge and will have applied theory to practical situations. Analytical and creative skills will have been enhanced along with being an effective communicator. Students graduating with the Diploma of Accountancy will be equipped with the appropriate skills and knowledge to obtain anticipated employment in various government and private organisations. Particularly, this is in line with the government’s initiatives to sustainably supply the ever-present market for accountants,” she said.
