Extensions

If your preparation for an in-semester assessment task is affected by an illness or other extraordinary circumstance that is outside your control, you may apply in advance for an extension to the due date.

Extensions are generally granted for up to a maximum of seven days. In special circumstances a longer extension may be granted.

An AAA is an adjustment or alteration to the standard conditions or format of assessment. It can apply to any formal assessment task or exam described in the Unit Outline.

How to apply

  • If you are seeking an extension of seven calendar days or less (from the original due date) you must apply on or before the assessment due date.
  • Applications for extension must be made to the unit convenor or teacher, by email or phone

Outcomes

You will be notified of the outcome of your application for extension via your Swinburne email account: this will include details of the extension granted and a revised deadline which will be documented.

If you are experiencing ongoing issues and require more than a one-off extension or you are unable to submit a final assessment or sit an exam then you should think about applying for Special Consideration. Special Consideration is available to students who have had their studies adversely affected by acute illness or other extraordinary cause reasonably beyond their control.
